The Financial Assistance Scheme is replacing the Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal (VOCAT).

The scheme is expected to open in the second half of 2023. Until then continue to use the existing VOCAT system (External link).

The scheme will provide financial assistance to victims to help them recover from violent crimes.

It will help with costs that arise from being a victim of a violent crime, such as:

  • counselling
  • medical expenses
  • loss of earnings
  • other expenses that would help a victim recover.

The scheme is being established by the Victims of Crime (Financial Assistance Scheme) Act 2022 (External link).
